Enjoyed yesterday's gig at The Market House. Felt a lot more comfortable playing with a proper pa system to be honest. Balance a bit ropey for opening song 'Mrs Robinson' though! Still sounded cool for most of the rest and it was cool that a mixed age audience were unanimous in being far more appreciative of my original stuff than the covers. 'Yeah Yeah' was comfortable and relaxed while I finally got the right arrangement for 'Kinetic'. That song's been bugging me for a while because everyone I play it to goes away singing or whistling the chorus but it's been a bit underwhelming live before now. Sorted yesterday though. Slight rearrangement has given it a whole different feel and has maximised the impact of the final chorus. 'So Confused' always goes down well because it's a good pop song, people like it and can relate to it and locals have heard it on the radio while gig goers have heard it played for a while now and have recently been able to download it on myspace.com/mattwescott...
'Ignorance Is Bliss' is probably the next one to get right up to speed as it's been similar to 'Kinetic' in that it's obviously a really good song with some cool hooks. Probably just needs playing a bit more to be honest but I was chuffed with it's progress Sunday and also the reaction was great. Also great audience reactions to second set opening of Coldplay's 'God Put A Smile On Your Face' and Oasis 'Wonderwall'. My song 'So What' has been getting a bit of a lukewarm reaction to be honest which is why it's good to do chilled out gigs like this from time to time. They give you a little head space to think on your feet. 'Clearly', which I probably had as less of a priority got a much better reaction and, in all fairness has always had a good reaction it's just quite new so I don't always remember to play it. 'Wake Up Call' was another song that got a good response so that probably goes above 'So What' too for now in the race for the last song for the Fionn Regan suport slot...
